A good start Jan 11, 2010
By Wally When installing under eave vents in colder climates, you want a vent that will aim the exhaust away from the house. Otherwise, the warm moist air will rise through your eaves and freeze onto the underside of your roof. This frost can accumulate, and can cause water damage when finally thawed. This vent will aim the exhaust away from the house. Unfortunately it suffers from the flapper icing shut. This results in poor ventilation, and water condensing in the hose between fan and exhaust. You will want to install it in a place where you can see the flapper functioning, and be able to poke it with a stick if it is iced shut. You could remove the flapper, but this negates the nice anti-backdraft function, and will probably lead to water again condensing in the hose. The unit is kinda flimsy, so after installing verify the flapper still functions freely.

Great item! Nov 29, 2010
By RF Items were shipped and delivered quickly without damage. I recently replaced two bath fans and vented them both through the soffit using these undereave vents. These vents are elegantly simple with no springs or parts to be serviced or replaced. They are perfectly shaped for any condensate to drip out. Hopefully, icing won't present any problems with the flap opening or closing. The flap closes by gravity and opens easily with air pressure from the fan. There should be no problems with insects or animals entering this vent. They were easy to install and connect to the flex tube. Be sure to use both foil tape and a mechanical fastener (screw clamp, etc.) to attach the flex tube to the vent and use aluminum or stainless steel screws to attach the vent to the soffit.

I like it. Jan 29, 2011
By Jose Rubio I like this product. Installing it was easy and I feel it will perform better than a standard down-pointing eave vent (which will be more susceptible to returning the moist air back into the attic). I installed it about 5" from the edge of the eave pointing outward.
The only negative is I would have liked the footprint to be a bit wider. The one in the picture seems to be for the 3" vent which has plenty of room between the duct and edges. The 4" is a little bit tight.

perfect solution Sep 13, 2010
By Mike Perfect solution for re-venting existing bathroom vent. If code is not specific in your area the odds are good that the builder/owner vented the bathroom vents into your attic. Not a good idea. This allowed me to vent out of the attic with insulated ducting to the eaves without cutting holes in the brick and siding. Turned a tough job to fairly easy. My only negatives/suggestions are: 1. Be sure to clean any remnants of plastic around the pivot points on the flapper so it operates smooth. 2. Mount with care. When screwed to the eave the unit can flex, causing the flapper to bind. This unit was a great solution to a big problem. I love it.

Under Eve Vent 4" Aug 03, 2010
By Paul R. Lundy The product works just fine. There is a shortage of options in the box houses for under eve installation and this is a reasonable solution. I wish the vent door was a little sturdier. I will see if there are any problems this winter with freezing up when it gets down below 32F.
