Nice point-of-use water heater Nov 18, 2011
By Wayne West It's difficult to find a point-of-use heater that uses electricity of 1,500 watt or less that fits well below the sink. I searched for many weeks and eventually decided on this one.
It's now installed under the sink in our kitchen and connected to both the dish washer and the hot water faucet. We are all happy with it. It provides instant hot water. No more long waiting.
Installation shouldn't have been difficult. I made the installation difficult as I want the option of using both house water heater and this smaller water heater (with two switches). Buying the connecting components alone cost another $100.00. Without that option, it can be simple $40 component cost.
GE has a water heater of the exact same specs of this Rheem product. I am sure they are the same. The GE model is sold from another vendor at a price about 10-20% higher than the Amazon's. As in most cases, Amazon rocks and provides good services.

Sharing warranty info I found, and same exact model as the GE Mar 28, 2012
By D. Dunn

I just bought this and it's on the way, and for now I want to share some warranty info I found:
* I emailed Rheem and they said the warranty is 6 years, and in the first year, they cover labor. They said that includes sending a contractor to your home to assess and fix it.
* From 2 to 6 years, you call them on the phone, they help you diagnose it. If it's a defective part, they ship it to you free of charge and you either self-install or pay for labor. If they determine the tank is defective and needs to be replaced, then you bring it into any distributor for a replacement.
Overall seems like a good warranty. That said, their customer service seems weak in that in the email I asked for the names of 3 local places, and the woman wrote back saying she included them, but did not. I called the number she put just below her name, and they said she didn't work there and they had no idea who she was.
To answer my question, they transferred me to a strange department without telling the person any of the info I just spent 2 minutes telling the other person. That department said they were the wrong department. I called again, they again said the woman did not work there but they would transfer me to people who could help, and again they did not give any of my info to the next person and I had to explain it all again.
Both times I called I chose the option for warranty info, yet the people who answered said they could not help, so they seem sort of off-track, so I'm giving this 4 stars.
If the heater proves to be worse or better than 4 stars, I will return here to change my rating. The other reviewer who said the item is the same as the GE is right. I spoke to a plumber who works at the big box hardware store that carries the GE model and he said they're the same. They had it for about 20% more than here. If you want to read more reviews of it, go to their site - they had several. As of today, this site only has 1 so you can get more over there, but their price is higher and you pay sales tax.
The same plumber said no maintenance is needed other than emptying the tank about every 2 years to clear sediment. He said I should not have to check, change or clean the heating element or anything else. If it stops working, call Rheem and go from there. You should note that the instruction manual states you should do periodic checking of things, but the plumber (a retired guy) said he was a plumber for 10 years and that checking of this unit is not needed, and GE/Rheem just put that in there for liability reasons.
Other models from other makers seemed to require cleaning of the element and/or some annual thing with the anode rod. I just need something I can set up and forget about, so I got this one, and the price was similar to the others.
