1Doesn't even power on!  Jun 07, 2008 By D. Ward
Aaargh!!

The AFCI on the plug immediately trips when plugging the unit into the wall. As a result it doesn't power on. Haier support says that my outlets don't have enough amperage, but I tried it from both 15 and 20 amp outlets (with nothing else turned on or plugged in) and still no result. It's a lot of fun dealing with a unit that's DOA.

I read that other brands of portable air conditioners have similar problems...the AFCI in the plug is way too sensitive. Caveat emptor!

1Doesn't work  Jun 28, 2010 By Noah Balder
This air conditioner doesn't work in standard houses. It should work on normal power outlets (120V) even though it's a 115V applicance, but it does not. Don't be tempted by the low price, buy a window unit or a more expensive portable unit.

1Poor cooling capacity  Jul 25, 2010 By RICHARD
Unlike the other two reviews, this product does run in my house, however the cooling capacity - what we buy air conditioners for ! - is extremely poor. I have two other AC units, both window models, and both do very well at cooling their respective areas, both areas larger than the room in which this Haier has been put. A Kenmore 8000 BTU unit in a larger room cools the room in 10 minutes - the Haier - brand new - can run for an hour and doesn't cool anywhere near the same. Glad we didn't pay for it , and can't wait to get this huge clunker out of the house.
