4Good basic line-voltage thermostat for attic fans  Sep 26, 2010 By Victor H. Agresti "remodeling-guy"
Air Vent Attic Fan Thermostat

(Amazon alternates the product photo between the model with the white label and the model with the blue label. They are virtually identical Air Vent brand attic fan thermostats. "Master Flow" is a product name sometimes used.)

As you can see from the Customer Images of the inside assembly, this is a simple device. It's designed to have the incoming electric line (typically a 14/2 non-metallic cable w/ground) enter one end, and the outgoing cable exit the other end. It doesn't matter which is which. An instruction sheet is included but wiring is as easy as installing a light switch. I.e., twist the incoming white wires together with a wire nut, tighten the incoming ground wires under the green grounding screw, and attach each of the incoming black wires to one of the black wires from the switch (doesn't matter which one).

The instructions recommend setting the thermostat to 105 degrees; that's when the fan would come on. It would then turn the fan off at 97 degrees - i.e., 8 degrees less than the thermostat setting. Device has an adjustable dial (60 to 120 degrees Fahrenheit). Our fan ran well into the evenings, even when the outside temps dropped into the 70's or lower. I then set the thermostat to 110 degrees, but it never came on. After setting it to 107 degrees, it seems to turn on/off as it should. The point is, you may have to tinker with the setting.

A protruding sheet metal "gripper" on each side of the base slips into corresponding holes in the cover to hold it in place when you're through wiring. On the unit I installed, the cover isn't held as securely as it would have been with a couple of screws. It doesn't take much effort to pop one side of the cover off the base. You might want to install the thermostat somewhat away from the fan so years of vibration won't loosen the cover.

I bought this thermostat at our local Home Depot and paid a about a third more than the Amazon price, but I wanted it in a hurry...

5Perfect thermostat  Apr 08, 2008 By Rex Orcutt
This is the perfect thermostat for my home theater system. It is fully adjustable and easy to install.
It cost less than half of what other audio/video thermostats sell for, and works great!
I don't know about attic fans, but I would sure recomend this product for home entertainment cabinet cooling applications.

5Good Heat Control  Feb 08, 2008 By Linda Mayer "Linda"
Amazon came through again. This in line thermostat works great and it is easy to set. I am using it to automatically control an exhaust fan in my audio visual equipment closet.

5air vent thermostat 58033  May 29, 2011 By mel
I used the Air Vent Inc. single speed thermostat 58033 with a shutter vent fan for my shop. Summer in the south is so hot and I did not want the stuff in my shop to get that hot. I installed the thermostat so the exhaust fan comes on automatically and lowers the temperature by pulling in cooler air from the outside. It works great, I really like the fan starting and stopping by itself.

5Air Vent Attic Thermostat  Nov 17, 2011 By jahmed
My old attic went bad causing the vent fan to run non-stop. Replaced the old one with this one and it is working great. I am pleased with the product. Also, Amazon came through again with prompt and on time service.
